Long lens, but with slow AF and an aperture that, without IS, needs good light to work well. Not dissimilar in design to the 100-300 5.6 which was around at the same time, however optical quality is much superior, with excellent performance even compared to some newer more expensive lenses.
An 'L' lens for your collection - watch out for condition though. There are no spares for many old long lenses.
