Canon's EF-M 22mm f/2 STM slim, small and light-weight lens is designed exclusively for the Canon EOS M Mirrorless Camera. Currently [06/2013], this is the only camera in this range.
The lens' f/2.0 aperture, when combined with the EOS M's large sensor, gives reasonable low-light performance.
The EF-M 22mm f/2 STM is the EOS M Digital Camera’s moderate wide-angle lens. Its f/2 aperture works well with the EOS M Digital Camera’s APS-C sensor, offering a relatively thin DOF at f/2. An aspheric lens element improves resolution and contrast.
The EF-M 22mm f/2 STM utilizes a built-in stepping motor to provide smooth and quiet continuous autofocus when shooting video with the Canon EOS M Digital Camera.
A circular aperture (7 blades) delivers soft-focus backgrounds and a short minimum focusing distance of only 5.9 inches (0.15 meters).

A quick guide to MTF charts (which only measure contrast and resolution. Canon's guide to their MTF charts)
Black lines reflect lens performance at widest aperture.
Blue lines show the performance at f/8
Thick lines indicate lens contrast
Thin lines indicate lens resolution
|
Dashed lines: Lens performance with meridional lines.
Solid lines: Lens performance with sagittal lines
Closer sagittal and meridional chart lines indicate more 'natural' out of focus areas.
|
Remember that MTF charts are good for comparing similar lenses, so comparing ones from the 14mm f2.8L and 300mm 2.8L won't tell you much at all, whilst comparing the EF14 2.8L with the EF14 2.8L II will show meaningful differences. Note that other manufacturers may have different ways of displaying such information that may or may not match up with the Canon figures. |
