The lens is available in an IS version, the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II. This is identical apart from the provision of image stabilisation and being ~10g heavierr.

Coinciding with the announcements of its new EOS DSLR cameras, Canon has also released details of five new lenses, including the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 III.

The EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 III is a standard zoom lens that is light and compact and will replace the standard kit lens with future EOS kits. It includes aspherical lenses and coatings plus a redesign that positions elements to minimise ghosting and flare.

Consisting of 11 elements in 9 groups it has a circular aperture and optimised AF control.
