Canon EF lenses listed by filter size

What other lenses can you use your filters with?

Most lenses take screw-in filters at the front, whilst a few of the larger telephoto lenses require rear mounted filters.

The shortest lenses [EF14, EF14 mk2, EF15mm (FE) and EF8-15mm (FE) ] only accept gel filters at the very rear of the lens. These need cutting to shape.

The Canon TS-E17mm with its protruding front element cannot be used with any normal size filter.

The TS-E 24mm (72mm filter) and TS-E24mm mk2 (82mm filter) both take front filters, but these need to be very low profile if the lenses are to be used at full shift. TS-E45mm (72mm filter) and TS-E90mm (58mm filter) can be used with filters

Step rings for filters

Larger filters can be used with a reducing step ring. Sets of stepped rings are widely available, making it easy to test new filters.

It's better to use a single ring for the exact size you want, such as the 49-62mm below, since the further ahead of the lens that the filter is placed, the greater the likelihood of vignetting.

lens filter adapter rings

Just make sure that if you are looking for a set of such rings, you get 'step-up' ones for using larger filters, such as these from Amazon:
Fotodiox 7 Metal Step Up Ring Set, Anodized Black Metal 49-52mm, 52-55mm, 55-58mm, 58-62mm, 62-67mm, 67-72mm, 72-77mm

Whilst you can use smaller than required filters, for a lens, you are very likely to get vignetting, especially at full aperture.
